It was a call I never expected. After over 20 years in the restaurant industry and a long and prosperous hospitality career, I didn’t expect my husband to call and tell me he thought brewing craft beer was next. But he was right…and it was the best decision we ever made. It all started in a local restaurant in downtown St Petersburg where Mike and Ty (Owner and Head Chef) were talking about how to take fresh menu items to the next level. When looking at a beer battered fish entree, they wondered if it could be better by brewing an original craft beer for the recipe. Not only did the fish become a best selling item, but the craft beer they put on tap became a significant percentage of the overall beer sales.
Fast forward to 18 months later, and 3 Daughters Brewing now occupies and 18,000 square ft warehouse in the arts district of St Pete. With close to 300 taps, we now distribute in Tampa, St Pete, Bradenton, Sarasota, Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda. In the month of June, we’ll expand into Gainesville, St Augustine, Lakeland and Jacksonville. Over the next 90 days, we’ll move further south in Florida, starting in Orlando and moving down the coast. In our tasting room, we continue to add amenities such as a deck outside, back racks, hand painted murals in the game room and music 3 nights a week.
We have expanded current tasting room hours and plan to open on Sundays starting on Father’s Day. But maybe best of all, we are having fun. It reminds you that sometimes the most unexpected phone calls provide the backdrop for the best decisions.
