Sweet relief: Shore Acres nonprofit growing

Many St. Petersburg residents felt the impacts of Hurricanes Helene and Milton. Matt Thorn was no exception.

In preparation for Helene, the first storm in 2024’s disastrous double-header, he purchased an excess amount of food to have in case the power went out.

Recognizing that some other neighbors stayed at home and chose not to evacuate, Thorn invited them to come over to get meals at his Shore Acres residence after the storm subsided. Even after approximately 30 inches of water damaged the property.

It started with coffee and a variety of grill-able food.
