In 2004, Delaware’s Dogfish Head Brewery was well into the process of making a name for itself through envelope-pushing beers, like 120-Minute IPA and World Wide Stout, brews notorious for their astronomical alcohol content. Then came something even more unusual: Liquor de Malt, an American adjunct malt liquor made with gourmet corn and packaged in 40-ounce bottles inside a hand-stamped paper bag. Unfortunately, Florida never received any of this beer, most likely because the 40-ounce package size is not allowed. But now, 13 years later, we have a local craft malt liquor of our own: 3 Daughters Brewing Ctrl + Malt + Del. While “malt liquor” simply refers to any stronger-than-average lager, the term is forever linked to low-end brews sold in oversized clear bottles in gas station coolers across the country. And look, let’s not pretend that we’ve never enjoyed a cool, 32-ounce…

We are very proud to announce that 3 Daughters Brewing was selected out of 18 national finalists by the U.S. Chamber as one of their Small Business Award Winners. We received the Emerging Business Achievement Award. We were the only company from Florida to be nominated and were thrilled to be chosen. Unfortunately, we were not able to go to Washington to accept the award (sorry no pictures) as hurricane Irma was moving through Florida. However, we were able to help some friends in the community by opening the brewery as a shelter of sorts and had 55 people, 12 dogs and 6 cats as we weathered the storm. There definitely wasn’t a dull moment. It was a privilege to be able to assist during the hurricane but were sorry to miss the small business summit and award ceremony. Since we didn’t get to…

So, what exactly is a “Good ‘Burger”? A Good ‘Burger is a business, organization, or individual in greater St. Pete making a positive impact in our community. In honor of a former mayor who referred to his citizens as “burgers” (as in St. Petersburgers), the Good ‘Burger Awards were established to honor Chamber members who contribute in a positive way to make our community special. This year we were placed in the “Makers and Creators” category. Incredible businesses such as 2 Hungry Dogs, St Petersburg Distillery, and Mother Kombucha were nominated alongside our brewery. We were proud to win in our category and take home the Good ‘Burger Award.   It was an amazing night celebrating our community and those special individuals/businesses that make St Petersburg such an amazing place to live.   Cheers, St Petersburgers!

Floating Dock Light Craft beer

As in really current. Go now current. But it’s always a delight to go to 3 Daughters in St. Pete. The team there is always warm and welcoming, with incredibly kind and personable people like Jackie available to people like me to ask a ton of questions to. Heck, Jackie made sure my daughter got her juice box before my wife and I got our beers. Things like that make a dad happy. Plus, every time we go, brewmaster Ty Weaver always has something good on tap. And sometimes that good is only 118 calories. Jest if you will, but Floating Dock (IPA, 4.3% ABV) remarkably hits the mark in flavor as well. It’s insanely sessionable, with a good amount of floral hops to keep things interesting. There’s still a noticeable biscuity character form that little malt they used, plus some rye to add…

Light craft beer from 3 Daughters

ST. PETERSBURG — There’s craft beer (interesting, delicious, caloric) and then there’s mass-market light beer (watery, disappointing, yet only 100 calories). Never the twain shall meet, right? That’s changing. New technology has allowed brewers to brew low-gluten beers and low-alcohol beers, so why not low calorie? Georgia’s Red Hare Brewing Company launched Gem City Classic Craft Light Lager in January, just 140 calories and 4.2 percent alcohol by volume, and Oregon’s Omission Brewing Co. debuted a 99-calorie craft beer in April. The trend is taking hold in Tampa Bay, with 3 Daughters Brewing launching Floating Dock Light India pale ale this month in kegs and in their tasting room, with cans of it following in the fall. This 118-calorie IPA is likely the first canned light craft beer in the state. “We’ll have it on tap for the Florida Brewers Guild conference in Orlando…
